Visitors check the model of the Czech Pavilion.
The Czech Republic today started a week-long promotion of its Expo 2010 display at the Expo Exhibition Center in downtown Shanghai, offering a preview of its pavilion which features the Old Town of Prague and rubber ice-hockey pucks.
Czech's Expo exhibition has the theme "Fruits of Civilization." It will spotlight the use of new technologies and renewable energy, transport solutions and a desire for privacy.
A unique architectural spiral resembling a ribbon will appear in front of the entrance to the pavilion, providing a preview of the country and simultaneously functioning as a refuge from sun and rain.
About 20 artsworks will be on display, including a piece of bronze relief with the statue of Saint Jan Nepomucky on the Charles Bridge in Prague. A large number of residents and visitors touch it every day for good luck. This will be the first time it has been displayed outside the nation, said Libor Secka, the Czech Ambassador to China.
There will be a restaurant entitled "Czechia" inside the pavilion.
